Striving to set a global standard in responsible travel.
Travel and tourism, which employs one out of every ten people globally, holds significant economic potential to drive positive community and environmental impacts when managed sustainably and responsibly.
Amid record-breaking heat, devastating wildfires, and ongoing social justice movements, travelers are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of responsible travel that not only avoids harm but actively contributes to local communities and the environment.
Kind Traveler, a responsible travel platform, has been making strides in transforming the tourism sector. It boasts a portfolio of 350 hotels, destinations, and organizations across 25 countries, all aligned with the global goals set by the United Nations. Kind Traveler is proud to collaborate with Los Cabos Tourism and various hotel and charity partners to promote responsible tourism through its “Every Stay Gives Back” program. This initiative ensures that a portion of every guest stay at participating hotels supports local charity efforts, fostering a sustainable future for Los Cabos.
Since its inception in 2016, the platform has encouraged travelers to contribute a starting donation of $10 at booking, with 100% of the proceeds going to various causes. Participating hotels in Los Cabos include Cabo Villas, Solmar Hotels and Resorts, Pueblo Bonito, Drift, and El Ganzo. Local impact partners benefiting from these donations include Friends for the Conservation of Cabo Pulmo A.C, Corazón Flora Animal, Comunidad la Playa Community Center, Fundación Lety Coppel, and Fundación Solmar.
So far, this initiative has raised $2,907, translating to tangible benefits such as 519 students receiving art supplies for a month at La Playa Community Center and 277 pouches of wet food for animals with Flora Farm’s Corazon Flora Animal Welfare Department.
Kind Traveler also provides a guide for “traveling with kindness,” recommending accommodations that uphold social responsibility, supporting local artists, participating in rural tourism by visiting communities such as Miraflores, Santiago, and Sol de Mayo, and engaging with local customs. It further advocates for using public buses to reduce the demand for private transport and dining at restaurants that source local ingredients.
Wesley Espinosa, Interim Executive Director of the Center for Responsible Travel (CREST), emphasized the travel industry’s unique position: “The travel industry has a unique opportunity to mobilize travel dollars in a way that fights the climate crisis, reduces economic inequality, strengthens community leadership, conserves the environment, and preserves the heritage of destinations. Kind Traveler’s new Every Stay Gives Back community impact program provides a valuable pathway for destinations and lodging partners to fund local charities, measure and report positive impact metrics, and promote the adoption of more responsible travel practices.”
