There’s something magical about waking up to the sound of waves gently lapping the shore and the scent of salt in the air. A vacation at a beach hotel is the perfect escape from the chaos of daily life, offering tranquility and adventure in equal measure. If you happen to live in Cabo, a beach hotel is a perfect excuse for a staycation.
I had the opportunity of staying at one of the Pueblo Bonito properties a couple of weeks ago. Let me tell you about it.
First, it is important to mention there are four hotels you can stay in. Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Golf & Spa Resort is an adults-only concept with a golf course next to it. It is an ideal place for a romantic getaway. Then there is Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Golf & Spa Resort – up on a hill, with spacious suites with ocean views. This place is the perfect venue to enjoy with the family. Both hotels are close to each other and are in an isolated part of Cabo San Lucas, pretty close to the old lighthouse on a very private beach.
On the other hand, Pueblo Bonito Rosé Resort & Spa and Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos are both located on El Médano Beach. These last two hotels are a great option for vacationers looking to be right in the center of the action of Los Cabos and go out clubbing, maybe rent a boat at the marina or walk around the city center.
I had the pleasure of staying at the Pacifica Hotel, and if you’re lodging there, your bracelet grants you access to all the other hotels and their amenities as it’s an all-inclusive plan.
On my first night, I had the pleasure of dining at one of their flagship restaurants – Península. Great food and drinks with unparalleled views of the ocean and sky. Since last year, chef Carlos Arriaga has served as Executive Chef of Pueblo Bonito Pacifica and oversees the five restaurants. Carlos is an expert in pre-Hispanic Mexican meats and techniques.
After an exquisite meal and a couple of signature drinks, I went to sleep to be ready for my day ahead. Early in the morning I took a yoga class and went on to have some breakfast and a general overview of the projects, with the Pueblo Bonito marketing team who told us everything they’ve been up to lately. I was amazed to hear about the emporium built so far! One of its most recent proposals is the exclusive Quivira Los Cabos development, which with its 728 hectares extends over more than five kilometers of pristine beaches at the top of the Baja California Sur Peninsula. The master plan includes private subdivisions: Montecristo, a set of vacation villas; Novaispania, custom fractional ownership residences; Copala, full-time residences and condominiums; Coronado, 68 single-story Mexican hacienda-style residences; and its most recent projects Mavila and Alvar, as well as Quivira Golf Club, the award-winning golf course. Mind-blowing.
Following this information overload, I went on to chill at the pool while I waited for my appointment at the spa. Oh boy. I was in for a treat! I had a soothing massage with essential oils, and invigorating body scrubs made with sea salt, in a treatment designed to rejuvenate body and soul. After fifty minutes of pure indulgence, I left nourished and even elevated.
That evening, I went to have dinner at Quivira Steakhouse, located at the Golf Clubhouse. The chef in charge is Oscar Cortés, who guarantees the generosity of the ocean and the treasures of the sea with an unmatched mix of the fortunes of the land. It’s an experience for foodies to sit back and get comfortable while waiters bring delicacies to the table. Oscar is also a very cool and easygoing fellow. I had the opportunity of speaking to him several times that evening and the following days and I can assure you he’s a true host.
Maybe it was because of the food, but the very next morning I was back at the Golf Clubhouse again but this time for a different reason. I was there to experience playing golf at one of the “100 Greatest Golf Courses in the World”, according to Golf Digest.
Teeing off with panoramic views of the ocean, the sound of crashing waves complemented the stillness of the green as I navigated the meticulously manicured fairway. Each hole offers its own scenic backdrop of turquoise waters and lush landscapes in this poem of a course designed by none other than the “Golden Bear” – Jack Nicklaus. Chapeau! This golf monument has more oceanfront exposure than any other course in Cabo and has been showered with awards and accolades since its debut in 2014.
After almost four hours of golf, I took a quick shower and went back to the fairway. This time to a very special place: The Bunker Bar. If I only had enough words to describe this magical place located next to the old lighthouse of Cabo – one of its oldest landmarks, dating from 1905 and witness to several scenes in the movie “Troy”.
This bar isn’t yet open to the public. Instead, it is used as a venue for private events. Here we discussed the vision for Quivira Los Cabos and the new luxury real estate projects, the Rosewood Residences Old Lighthouse Club and St Regis Los Cabos at Quivira with José Luis Mogollón, COO of Quivira Los Cabos. We also enjoyed a “Day of the Dead” dinner with my pal, chef Oscar Cortés.
The following morning, even though I was not ready to leave, checkout was next on the schedule. All of this made me think that a stay at a place like this is more than just a vacation; it’s an invitation to reconnect—with nature, with loved ones, and most importantly, with oneself.
And as one heads home, there’s comfort in knowing that every goodbye is just the beginning of planning your next seaside adventure.
