Nowadays, since the conscience of the people has awaken regarding the environment and due concern for the care of nature, the preferences had open to other fields.
So, whether you are a nature lover, a photography enthusiast or simply someone looking for a stunning view, this place is perfect for you.
If you are looking for an impressive view of La Paz city, you have to climb the Cerro de la Calavera, considered by the local community as one of the best viewpoints in the area.
This place is located northwest of the city of La Paz, after the area known as Palmira, approximately 3 kilometers on the La Paz-Pichilingue highway.
Why is it called Cerro de la Calavera?
Many people claim that this hill has the shape of a face or a skull if viewed from a certain angle or perspective, which is why it was named that way. This can best be observed by driving or walking past the side of the site.
Anthropological investigations indicate that on this hill there have been found lots of archaeological materials, vestiges of the ancient Californians, used the caves as shelter. For this reason, Cerro de la Calavera is considered an archaeological heritage by the Mexican National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), since it was a site of Guaycura (Indigenous people of Baja California Sur, Mexico, who were nomadic hunter-gatherers) settlements.
