Are you young and interested in science? Are you looking for an activity for your winter holidays? Now is your chance.
For the first time, the Mexico Science Clubs MiniMOOCs will have an in-person edition in La Paz, Baja California Sur. MiniMOOCs are free online courses that consist of five lessons designed by scientists and animators from both Mexico and the US.
MiniMOOC “mini–Massive Open Online Course". A Mini-MOOC is a self-contained instructional module that can be used to give students a taste of a course and help them decide if it's right for them.
In each lesson, the complexity of learning development is increased in understanding the use of knowledge, analysis of new problems, synthesis and evaluation of new scenarios.
This model, for the first time, will have a face-to-face component in La Paz, complementing online learning with practical activities.
In-person courses are not traditional classes. They function as clubs, where young people carry out experiments from day one and then understand the concepts behind them so that they can apply them through experiments and activities in laboratories and field trips.
These courses will be developed in five areas: “Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology, “Earth Sciences and Oceanography”, “Nanotechnology”, “Materials Sciences” and “Energy Sustainability”.
Thanks to the support of universities, private companies and the National Council of Humanities, Sciences and Technologies (CONAHCYT) The program is free
“Supporting the minds of the future is our mission. Mexico and the world need more scientists, not only in the academic field, but also in industry. These courses are designed to train young people who can contribute to the sustainable development of our planet,” emphasized Claudia García Gil, director of operations of Science Clubs Mexico.
Last chance to register
Registration for the courses will be open until the weekend before the event, through an online form available at this link: https://minimooc.clubesdeciencia.mx/
Those interested in participating in this special edition should register as soon as possible, since space is limited. For more information, you can write to the email equipo.lapaz@clubesdeciencia.mx.
The selection process will be based on an evaluation of the applicants' interest and enthusiasm for learning about science, leaving their academic performance in the background.
“We want the young people of La Paz to take advantage of this unique opportunity. We don't know if there will be another winter edition in the future. It is the perfect time to get closer to science and discover your passion,” García Gil concluded.
