By the Regulation of Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection of the Municipality of Los Cabos, fines or, failing that, deprivation of liberty will be applied to those caught depositing garbage on public roads or who generate clandestine dumps.
These can range from $550.00 USD to $110,000.00 USD and from three months to three years in prison.
During a work meeting led by the general secretary in Cabo San Lucas, José Samuel Cisneros Peruyero announced that due to the severe problem of garbage dumps, especially in the surroundings of some commercial establishments, a contingency plan is being developed.
The first step, he said, will be to raise awareness among citizens by providing them with proper information and calling for attention. If the violations persist, the authorities will apply fines and sanctions as mentioned.
It is always good to have laws that improve our cities, but the most important thing is to enforce them. We hope so.
