Los Cabos is buzzing with tourism, hosting approximately 50,000 visitors per month through Airbnb alone, according to the state’s undersecretary of civil protection. Additionally, another 9,000 visitors are scattered across the rest of the state, bringing the total to 59,000 rooms, apartments, and homes contributing to the 4% tourist tax revenue.
This tax revenue plays a crucial role in local infrastructure development, with 1% allocated directly to infrastructure projects. The lion’s share, 80%, goes towards promoting tourism within each municipality, ensuring that local attractions and amenities are well-publicized. Another 17.5% supports broader state-level tourism promotion efforts, attracting visitors to all corners of Baja California Sur.
The remaining funds are used for operational expenses, ensuring that tourism-related services and facilities run smoothly. The contribution from Airbnb hosts and visitors not only supports the local economy but also enhances the overall tourism experience by funding essential services and promotional activities.
