There’s a new player in the Mexican airline industry, but it looks like Los Cabos will have to wait a bit longer to be part of its network. Mexicana de Aviación, revived under President Andres Manuel López Obrador’s decision, has taken to the skies once again after its bankruptcy in 2010. Its inaugural flight this Tuesday, a Mexico City to Tulum route, marked a new beginning for the airline, with a leased Boeing 737-800s aircraft.
However, the journey wasn’t without its hiccups. A heavy fog in Tulum meant the flight had to be temporarily diverted to Yucatán. Thankfully, after a couple of hours’ delay, the plane resumed its trip, eventually making its way to the Mayan Riviera.

While this is exciting news for travelers, those in Los Cabos might feel a bit left out. With only five airplanes currently in Mexicana’s fleet, plans to include Los Cabos in their route map have been shelved for the time being. It’s a bit of a letdown for sure, especially considering the popularity of Los Cabos as a destination.
So, for now, Los Cabos residents and visitors will have to wait a little longer to see Mexicana de Aviación planes gracing their airport. But there’s hope that once the airline expands its fleet, Los Cabos will be high on their list of new routes.
