The number of Cruise Ships will Increase This Month. The Mexican Association of Cruise Ships says we will see the arrival of three to four cruise ships in one single day during the last 10 days of this month due to Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. The number of cruise ships visiting our beautiful Cabo Bay has increased 13% this year. Let’s all look pretty!

Our Tourism Keeps on Changing. New Trend Seen. We recently reported our tourists not only come to Cabo for the golf and fishing – and wonder weather – anymore, but also for other wellness, ecology and food experiences. Well, the Los Cabos Tourism Fund has now released the results of a new study: 65% of our visitors are between 26 and 45 years of age, with the largest part being those between 26 and 35 years old. Rotary East Cape Group Delivers Donation. The Rotary Club at Los Barriles, East Cape donated 10,000 pesos (about $600 bucks) to the Civil Protection Ambulance Repair matching drive organized by RONIVAL real estate. The funds were obtained by the Taste of East Cape fundraising event at Laguna Park organized by the Rotary Club. Thank you to all who participated!
New Water Well Begins Pumping. Water well # 5 of Cabo San Lucas started pumping 10 gallons per second last week, which will alleviate the water scarcity in our thirsty town. Hoooray!
Ballroom Dancing This Sunday in San Jose. The main park in San Jose del Cabo will be the scene for an open-to-the-public dancing event for couples. The music will be “Danzón,” a type of slow, sensual dancing music created in Cuba in 1879. It is very popular at parties in central Mexico and now it is your turn to watch the dancers or even dance yourself. The dance will take place on December 10 and 17 from 6 to 9 pm.

Hilton to Bring Two Hotels to Southern Baja. They are not new, but remodeled. Hilton Hotels has announced it will operate the remodeled 90-room La Perla hotel in La Paz, right across the street from the malecón. The second hotel will be the also remodeled 70-room Tropicana in San Jose del Cabo’s downtown. Both will operate under the Tapestry Collection by the Hilton brand. Welcome!
Airline Connections With Los Cabos Breaks Record. The Los Cabos Tourism Fund (FITURCA) reports that we are now connected with 30 cities in the U.S. FITURCA officials expect our tourist destination to end the year with 4.5 million tourists and that would break another record.
Competitions to Celebrate Balandra Beach. Eleven years ago, the beautiful Balandra beach became a federally Protected Natural Area. To commemorate, the La Paz government has organized running, kayaking, paddleboarding and bicycling competitions on Sunday, December 10.

It’s Recycling Time in the East Cape! The non-profit, volunteer organization to protect Baja Land and marine environment is organizing a Public Drop Off the First Thursday of each month from 9 to 11 am. They will be taking Plastic, Metal, Cardboard and EPS 6 (with some restrictions). The drop-off site is on the main street (20 de Noviembre) of Los Barriles at the beautiful “Baja’s Resort at East Cape” (next to Caleb’s Cafe & the bike shop). Get your trash ready!
Japanese and Mexican Scientists Create Artificial Reefs. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has invested US $1 million to produce 200 cubes of “shellnurses” with clams, mussels, and oysters’ shells, which would usually end up in the trash, to create artificial reefs. They are being deployed in San Juan de la Costa, a fishermen’s community north of La Paz on the Sea of Cortes, with the aid of Mexican scientists and fishermen.

Women Live Longer Than Men in Southern Baja. The National Institute of Statistics has released its report on life expectancy, which found that women’s average is 80.1 years, up from 76.2 years in 2010. Life expectancy for men is 74.1 years, up from 73.5 in 2010. At a National level, women also beat men with 78.6 years, versus 72.3 for men. Only the state of Nuevo Leon, in northern Mexico is above our state, with 77.6 years average.
Local Hiker Going Up Everest. Antonio Gil, originally from San Jose del Cabo, is in Nepal, South Asia, climbing up the mountain to reach Mount Everest’s highest point at 29,031 feet high. He hopes to get to the top in a week and become one of less than 50 Mexicans who have reached the top of Mount Everest.
University Delivers 1 Million Oyster Seeds. Oyster producers of Comondu, a municipality located in central Southern Baja north of La Paz, received 1 million oyster shells from researchers at the State University (UABCS). This is the 3rd delivery of the same amount to benefit oyster producers. The seeds are worth between US $8,000 and $28,000, depending on their size.
Baja 1000 Organizers Pay for Road Damages. And… the governor is unhappy with the amount. SCORE International paid the state’s roads department nearly USD 18,000 for dirt road repairs caused by the race. Victor Castro, Southern Baja’s governor, said, “It’s not enough even for heavy equipment’s diesel! Coming from a company that generates millions of dollars, it’s a low figure.”
