Los Cabos Open of Tennis 2024

Los Cabos Open of Tennis 2024

Los Cabos Open of Tennis is an annual event, part of the ATP 250 tour. The contest, organized by Mextenis, takes place in Los Cabos at the Cabo Sports Complex (CSC), a multifunctional sports complex that boasts magnificent facilities and exquisite architectural design, with a capacity for 3,500 fans – a grandstand for 1,500 people and three fields that can be adapted to receive up to 800 spectators (in addition to a special area for players).

Since its first edition in 2016, the tournament has been acclaimed for its impressive natural surroundings in the Baja California peninsula, which combines the beauty of the Sea of Cortez and the desert-like nature.

The very exciting news is, this edition is the last in which the tournament was held during summer. Starting next year, it will take place between February 19 and February 24, prior to the Mexican Open presented by HSBC in the city of Acapulco, which is an ATP 500 tournament. So by 2024, Mexico will host two A-level tournaments back to back thanks to the work, organization and experience of Mextenis!

There was a press conference in Mexico City on September 26th where it was announced that four Top 10 players were confirmed. We are talking about the Dane, Holger Rune (No. 4), the Greek and current champion, Stefanos Tsitsipas (No. 5), the Norwegian, Casper Ruud (No. 9) and the German, Alexander Zverev (No. 10).

Tsitsipas will come back to the Cabo Sports Complex to defend his title won this summer, along with one of the ten he boasts in his record, at the age of just twenty-five.

On the other hand, the tournament will have three new contenders that will make their debut at the Los Cabos Tennis Open. Holger Rune, who reached his best ranking in August of this year and remains number four in the world at age twenty, is one to follow in the circuit according to the Swiss tennis legend, Roger Federer. Rune had his professional debut in 2020 and has won four titles, including the Masters 1000 in Paris.

Then there is Casper Ruud, currently number 9 in the world, yet number 2, only one year ago. The Norwegian is twenty-four years old, with ten ATP titles and having played three Grand Slam finals, two of them at Roland Garros, on clay, his favorite surface to play.

Alexander Zverev has come back to the Top Ten after a long injury recovery. Like Ruud, Zverev, now twenty-six, also reached number 2 in the world, at the ATP ranking last year. As of 2023, Zverev has twenty titles under his belt plus one Olympic gold medal in Tokyo in 2021.

“There is no doubt that we will have one of the best lineups in the history of the tournament. It is an event that has been consolidating over the years, and more and more players want to come live with the experience of competing in Los Cabos. We are very excited about our new date during the winter. A new era begins for the organization and we hope it will be great for the fans. We are sure that it will be for the benefit of everyone,” said the director of the tournament, José Antonio Fernández.

Los Cabos Tennis Open 2024 will have a singles main draw of 28 participants and 16 couples in doubles. Tickets are now available.

So, as we eagerly await next year’s tournament, we hope to enjoy this beautiful game and as the great John McEnroe once said, “I will let the racket do the talking,” so, game, set, match – until next year!
