The national commission of natural protected areas (CONANP) reports that at last count, there are 1,364 Gray whales (Eschrichtius robustus) in Southern Baja, up 238 from last season. They have been sighted in El Vizcaino, Ojo de Liebre and San Ignacio lagoons. Among them are 491 calves who were born here. Yes, Pacific gray whales are born mostly in Southern Baja, so they are Mexicans!
