Before you start planning your Mexican Fiesta, be aware that it is an official holiday and employees are to be given the day off or be paid double salary. Banks, government offices and most businesses close for the day. There is usually a parade throughout downtown, but not this year due to Covid-19. Bummer. There will be no “Grito de Independencia” either, that the one when city mayors shout “Viva Mexico” at 11;00 pm the night before, commemorating the start of the revolt against the Spaniards. However, people will eat traditional Mexican food and party everywhere with flags, flowers and decorations in the colors of the Mexican flag – red, white and green. Some hotels will hold a special Mexican Night party and add fireworks! Viva Mexico!!!
