There are few places left to participate.
The ninth edition of La Paz’s beloved Christmas parade is back, promising a magical evening filled with joy, lights, and holiday spirit. Organized by Kiko Rodríguez, this cherished family event began nine years ago with a simple idea: “It all started with the 4x4 Wiikos Community,” Rodríguez shared. “I was part of an off-road car club, and during a ‘posada’ (a traditional Mexican Christmas party), I thought of decorating the vehicles and driving around to give candy to children. There were only 15 cars that first year, and from there, the idea grew.”
After a two-year pause due to the pandemic, the parade is returning with its core mission intact: “It is not a political or commercial event,” Rodríguez emphasized. “It’s something I organize with my family, purely to bring smiles to children. My motto has always been: give a smile.”
This Saturday, December 21, the streets of La Paz will come alive with holiday cheer. The parade kicks off at 5:00 p.m., starting at Las Garzas and traveling along the Malecón, from Márquez de León Street to Los Cocos. The event will conclude in the city hall parking lot, where everyone can enjoy snacks, champurrado, tamales, elotes, and festive fun, including photos with Santa and the decorated vehicles.
The Malecón will be closed to traffic from Márquez de León to Norte Street (Molinito) to ensure a safe environment. The city police will assist with breathalyzer checkpoints and security.
This year’s parade will be the largest yet, with 250 registered units, including ambulances, vans, and motorhomes. Rodríguez shared some important guidelines: alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited, and each vehicle must carry a fire extinguisher. Participants should decorate their vehicles creatively and distribute individually packaged candy to children.
“We’ve never had an accident, and we want to keep it that way,” Rodríguez said. “This is about sharing Christmas joy responsibly so families and children can enjoy a unique and safe moment.”
