The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) reports that between January and October 2024, Mexico received 36.3 million international tourists, and this translates into $ 4,302.79 million dollars in foreign currency income from international tourists, which represents a record figure.
According to the results of the International Traveler Survey published by INEGI, the country received 5.3 percent more in foreign currency from tourist spending compared to the accumulated amount of the first 10 months of 2023, when it reached 23 thousand 89.52 million dollars.
In the context of a depreciation of the exchange rate, the expense that contributed the most to this advance was that of internal tourists, adding 22 thousand 722.52 million dollars.
All this represents growth of 7.2 percent more compared to the same month last year.
Meanwhile, internal tourists, tourists residing abroad who visit Mexico, pass the delimitation of the border strip and spend the night at least one night in a destination in the country, totaled 16.56 million during the first 10 months of the year, amount which represented an annual drop of 10 percent.
Foreign currency income related to total visitor spending amounted to 2,232.2 million dollars: 10.4 percent more than in the same month of the previous year. The spending of international tourists reached 1,980.6 million dollars. Of these, 91.2 percent came from internal tourists and 8.8 percent from border tourists.
