 Holiday Alert! Holiday Alert!

This Monday February 7, Mexico celebrates the ratification of the Constitution of 1917. The Mexican constitution of 1917 was the first such constitution in the world to include social rights and served as a model for the Weimar Constitution of 1919 and the Russian Constitution of 1918. All government offices, banks, schools, and businesses are closed on this day and employers must pay triple salary if they want their workers to show up. Most retail stores and restaurants will open as usual. The Constitution has been amended 707 times since, including 42 amendments by current president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador who took office on December 1, 2018. Nobody is perfect. Sigh.
