New Botts' dots (called little turtles in Mexico, turtles in Washington and Oregon or buttons in Texas and other southern states) are being installed on the fourlane between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo again, in an attempt to force drivers to slow down. They have been deployed at the Costa Azul curve, one of the sites with more accidents. Bott’s Dots are named after Elbert Dysart Botts, a California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) engineer credited with overseeing the research that led to the development of the markers.
