Los Cabos City Council announced the start of audits on 27 beaches within city limits.
The inspections are being conducted by the Mexican Institute for Standardization and Conformity Assessment (IMEEC) and coordinated by the Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat). The process includes water testing, interviews with cleaning crews, and reviews of environmental programs aimed at supporting safe and sustainable beaches.
Audits to Continue for Two Weeks
Rafael Álvarez, head of Zofemat in Los Cabos, said the audits take place every six months. This round began at El Médano Beach and is expected to continue for approximately two weeks at various locations along the coastline.
The audits are designed to check existing certifications and ensure compliance with guidelines set up by the Technical Committee of the Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone. Officials also aim to maintain clean, safe, and environmentally sustainable public spaces.
Inspectors are focusing on sanitary conditions, including monitoring enterococci levels to ensure they stay below proven safety thresholds. Authorities say the inspections are part of ongoing efforts to uphold high environmental and public health standards for both residents and visitors.
