155 US Military Personnel will Enter Mexican waters

Do not worry. It is to participate in training exercises.

The Mexican Senate Naval Committee has approved the entry of 155 armed U.S. military personnel into Mexico for training exercises. This permission was requested by President Claudia Sheinbaum and published in the Parliamentary Gazette. The commission’s ruling is expected to receive full endorsement from the Plenary soon.

The U.S. personnel, part of the Army’s Northern Command, will participate in the “Bilateral Amphibious Exercise Phoenix 2025,” which will take place in three phases from March to April at the Mexican Navy’s Regional Training Center Number 4 on Santa Margarita Island, Baja California Sur.

A Senate spokesperson mentioned that they support this decision, citing concerns over drug trafficking and the benefits of bilateral coordination for training Mexican personnel. Alejandro Moreno, the chairman of the Navy Commission, clarified that the U.S. service members will enter with organic weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and special equipment.

According to the approved resolution, the U.S. contingent will be in Mexico from March 24 to April 23, 2025. The exercise is set to be conducted in three phases at CENERAG-4. Additionally, the resolution covers the deployment of 53 Mexican Navy personnel along with the ARF Isla Tiburón VAL-01 logistics support vessel, which will depart on March 28 for San Diego, California, to transport the U.S. delegation. They are scheduled to return to Mexico on April 6, 2025.
