The Social Infrastructure Works Trust (FOIS) of Los Cabos is set to invest $11.5 million in 2025 to pave over a dozen streets within the municipality. The initiative, aimed at enhancing urban connectivity, will cover areas in both San José and Cabo San Lucas.
In an interview, Hilda Arras, Secretary of the Trust, detailed the upcoming improvements. The projects were meticulously planned in collaboration with the Urban Planning Institute (IMPLAN) to address the increasing traffic congestion faced by residents. “We are gearing up for significant work. These projects, conceived during our technical meetings, are designed to provide alternative routes and alleviate the traffic jams that have become a common issue in Los Cabos,” Arras explained.
A key development from the discussions with the Secretariat of Finance and Public Administration of Baja California Sur (BCS) is that FOIS will now operate as its own bidding unit. This autonomy allows FOIS to manage its construction projects directly, without reliance on state or municipal governments.
“It’s a significant advancement for us, enabling greater efficiency and strengthening the Trust,” Arras commented. She emphasized the trust’s commitment to quality and transparency, which has consistently garnered public approval. “The enhanced revenue from the state tax increase, which has gone up by at least 60%, allows us to undertake three times more projects annually than previously possible.”
This ambitious paving project not only promises to improve daily commutes for locals but also reflects FOIS’s ongoing commitment to infrastructural development and community satisfaction in Los Cabos.
