Los Tacos Locos
If you’re looking for some tasty tacos in town, this place has them with a little bit of a twist. Nothing but good cocktails and tacos, very simple but hits the spot. If they have a special when you are there, get it!! Whatever the special is, it’s going to be delicious. The carne en su jugo is a must. Fresh whole pinto beans, salsa verde au jus with tender pieces of beef. Topped with cilantro, tomatoes and lime to tang it up.
The guava and passionfruit Cantaritos are amazing with their homemade Chemoya infused with hibiscus flowers. Its tart-based drink is full of flavor so that you can remove the spice from some of those grilled jalapeños.
You have to taste the taco and then take a sip of your drink with a smudge of their freshly-made hibiscus chemoya and enjoy the full experience.
The taco loco is my husband’s favorite. The creamy avocado inside seals the deal, but I cannot resist anything with fresh cooked pinto beans either. The queso melted into it puts all the goodness together. It was chunky and fulfilling with that many textures including a crunchy outside. You will actually hear the crunch when you take a bite into it.
Make sure that you get their fresh salsa on the side to put into each bite. It’s got a little bit of a punch, but it’s not too spicy, it’s full of flavor. You’ll want to have that in every single one of the bites. Charred tomatoes with cilantro, onions, garlic and Serranos that are molcajete blended and should really be bottled.
Don’t be worried about the grilled orange jalapeño they give you. It will make you wanna suck down that drink so fast, but yet again, the hibiscus chemoya will be satisfying and you’ll just dance to their live music too. They have live music every Tuesday and Friday with everything from Spanish music to your everyday American sign-along classics.
We’re not done yet, another one of the tacos that you need to try is the Vaquerito – one word my husband says to describe it, ridiculous. The chile relleno melts and combines other flavors together. It’s not spicy so don’t be afraid of the chile itself. But it’s compacted with a lot of flavor. The meat is tender and again, that salsa.
My husband ordered the Vampiro, but he didn’t even bother to share a bite with me. So, I had to order another one so that I can try it and give you all feedback. It was that delicious that I wouldn’t have shared with him either. It took two bites, so we ordered another. Why? The crunchy tostadita with melted cheese, like just smudge on there, like fondue of Mexican cheeses just enough to coat the tostada. Then the arrachera steak chunks melted in there with chard salsa.
Make sure you enjoy the small chunks of pineapple because they’re definitely to die for. They give enough sweet and tang.
You will see us there clapping and singing along on Tuesdays. The Plaza Artesanos, a short walk from the VIdanda resort towards downtown San Jose is awesome too because getting to eat a bunch of tacos and walk it off with a little shopping is always a good idea. There’s everything from jewelry, clothing and art. But relaxation is also a must!
Get a pedicure or a massage – it’s all at the plaza for you to enjoy.
– go eat tacos. I love tacos!!
