Cabo San Lucas
All species combined comprised 94.41%; Billfish, 75.52%; Dorado, 24.48%; Tuna, 29.37%; and Other, 20.28%.
Recently, the skies have been clear, the seas were calm, and the wind blew from 10 to 12 kts. With the water temperature at 84 degrees and the air between 78 and 87 degrees Fahrenheit, it was a beautiful time to be on the water.
Three anglers from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, David Silvernagle, Hayden Anderson, and Robert Nicholls chose to charter the “ADRIANA,” a 28-foot Uniflite run by Captain Jesús Romero and Mate Mario Juárez. They headed to the Pozo Cota, where they caught one large (82-pound) Yellowfin on bait.
Captain Manuel, Sr. at the helm and Mate Jr. running the cockpit of the “CORONITA,” a 40-foot Cabo Express, helped to pull off an excellent fishing day for their angler Rene Corona from California when he caught and released one 100-pound Striped Marlin on bait at the Los Arcos, one 30-pound Dorado on bait at the Pedregal, and two Yellowfin Tuna (one at 50 pounds and one at 110 pounds) on lures below the San Jaime Bank. Happy doesn’t describe Rene Corona as he left the boat. Congratulations, Rene from California!
“ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite with Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Pedro Zamacona, took a California couple, Alexander Burns and Amy Somers, to the 1150 Spot where they successfully caught and released one 100-pound Striped Marlin on bait and three Yellowfin Tuna weighing in the 35 to 50-pound class taken on bait/kite), and caught and released one 60-pound Sailfish on bait all on the 1150 Spot. What an ideal day to go fishing.
A group from Waco, Texas, decided that they would like to head to Cabo. Bob McEachern, Colton Short, Dylan Short, George Wolfe, Tanner Bridger, and Thomas Rafferty chartered the “FRIDAY BANK,” a 66-foot Viking, with Captain Alex and Mates Beto and Saul headed to the Punta Gorda where they caught and released one 120-pound Striped Marlin on bait. They also caught and released one 160-pound Blue Marlin and a 180-pound Blue Marlin. They caught and released the Blue Marlin on lures, green and yellow, and green and black. Plus, they caught one 35-pound Yellowfin Tuna on feathers, all at Punta Gorda.

Gordo Banks Pangas
Highlight this week was a wahoo bite towards Vinorama and Iman. On Friday, Captain Tony was able to land four nice wahoo. He had seven strikes, with most on X-Raps and Nomads DTXs. One bite came on a rigged ballyhoo, and we saw a decent bite on Thursday as Captain Chuy landed two nice ones on the ballyhoo. Most of the wahoo are nice-sized, averaging around 25 to 30 pounds. We did see a couple of wahoo over 40 pounds this week, but the bite remained spotty throughout the weekend.
At Iman, we are beginning to see nice-sized yellowfin tuna in between the small football-sized tuna. This week, we saw three tuna in the 60 to 70-pound class. These tuna were caught on light gear (30# and 40# test) as the average tuna was 5 to 6 pounds. Most tuna were caught on squid since live bait was hard to get.
Although there is plenty of bait throughout our shoreline, with most of the concentration towards Palmilla Point, most of the Bisbee’s boats got priority on the live sardines. The big boats were buying $200 to $300 worth of sardina, it left the smaller pangas with only a handful of sardina. We continue to catch small yellowfin towards Cabeza de Ballena and Cerro Colorado, though the bite has been mainly early in the mornings when the boat count is low. Trolling Rapala, ballyhoo, and lures in that area has also produced some wahoo and dorado stikes. Most of the Dorado are on the smaller side, averaging around 8 to 12 pounds.
Earlier this week before the tournament started, a few boats were able to fish the bottom at the Inner Gordo successfully. There was plenty of action drifting with strips of skipjack for dogtooth snapper. One of the boats within the fleet was able to land four nice dogtooth while losing a few others in the rocks. …Brian Brictson
East Cape
The East Cape is still offering good fishing. We have Tuna off Punta Pescadero as well as outside about 25 miles. The fishing for billfish continues with steady action for marlin and sailfish. Inside there are small roosters with a few Sierra starting to show. …Jeff DeBrown
La Paz – Las Arenas/ Muertos Bay/ Suenos Bay
Mostly comfortable. You can tell the weather is changing, however. It is getting cooler in the mornings and evenings. It is almost time for sweatshirts! Low 70s to start the day and low 90s during the day. Very pleasant. It’s beginning to get breezier, and the north winds have started up this week, which will change things completely once they begin blowing consistently.
WATER: The water is mostly pretty and blue – perfect for fishing. It is getting to be 81 degrees on the surface but colder down deeper, as evidenced by some of the fish we are hooking. We’ve had a few bouncy days from the winds, and it’s gonna’ get’ rougher if the winter winds start to kick in.
FISH HOOKED THIS WEEK: Dorado, tuna, wahoo, sailfish, blue marlin, striped marlin, amberjack, yellowtail, sierra, bonito, jack crevalle, roosterfish, trevally, pompano, cabrilla, snapper, triggerfish.
