When visitors arrive in Los Cabos looking for that pure, unadulterated tobacco taste found in the finest cigars, they usually end up at the world-famous J&J La Casa del Habano Cabo which has been featured in USA Today as the best cigar outlet in the Southern Baja California region.
The thing about cigars is that a Cuban is unblended and completely free of preservatives and taste enhancers. This purity is responsible for producing a signature taste which cannot be replicated elsewhere. Everything from flavor to color is achieved through natural means and that’s part of the cigar’s inherent beauty. In fact, few consumable products are so natural.
“The best selection of authentic Cuban cigars I have found in Mexico. The humidor is well-maintained, and all cigars were in perfect condition,” said James Benavides of Antioch, CA during his recent visit.
“Great space. Great selection of top-notch authentic cigars,” noted Tom Stroffolino, who arrived in Cabo from the greater New York Metropolitan area.
“I did a ton of homework before my cruise and I just wanted to find legit Cuban cigars. I’m not rich so I can’t buy boxes of Monte Cristo or Romeo y Julieta cigars. They are super pricey and it’s just not for me. But, as a licensed Cuban cigar retailer, this shop has tons of options at various price points. You can pick up a box of sticks for $150, $250, $750, $1,500 or more. Variety is the best possible situation for cigar smokers,” said Hector Gonzales Jr. from Corpus Cristi, Texas. “If I lived in Cabo (hopefully someday) I’d be there all the time. The VIP lounge in the back is super dope and chill. TVs to watch sports, full bar to get your drink and lots and lots of space to relax.”
And yes, people who actually live here recommend J&J’s as well. ”Real deal Habanos. That’s all I can say. Be prepared to pay the price. People think they will come here and find Cubans cheap because you’re in Mexico, but they are sadly mistaken. It is what it is. I buy my Havana Club bottles here. Mojitos are good but pricey. I’m not complaining, just giving you a heads up before you think you’re gonna walk out with a box of Cubans for 100 bucks. That’s not gonna happen,” said Noreen Sandoval, a retired and now stress-free former schoolteacher from San Francisco, CA.
“Best cigar lounge in Cabo, bar none. The staff is great and super friendly. Great selection of real Cubans, in the walk-in humidor. The Mojitos are awesome! Must stop in if you are a cigar enthusiast. Glad I came here. Wife loved it as well,” added Mark Pousard, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Another good place in Cabo San Lucas is Havana Cigar House, located just outside the Puerto Paraiso Plaza Mall, where cigars are sold at a fair price. There are also Platinum Cigars by J. Rendon, which can be found along The Marina Parkway Boulevard at Plaza Marlin, behind or on the side of Giggling Marlin. It’s a very tiny little place but with some good selections.
“They have a lot of variety in Cuban cigars, at a decent price,” said Adam Betta, a University of San Francisco graduate and District Sales Manager, Partner/Broker at Corcoran Icon Properties.
The Cabo Cigar Roller Cigar Roller/ Blue Bayou Cigars offers guaranteed authentic cigars. The owner reminds tourists about the export and import taxes, plus the extreme care of shipping the Cuban cigars into Cabo, which increases the origin cost by up to 100%.
“We hired Ulises from Puros Maestro Torcedor for our wedding at Sandos Finisterra and preordered 40 torpedo cigars. It was a huge hit! All the men said it was the best cigar they ever had. He will make you a cigar any width or length, he will ask how robust you’d like it, and he will show you how he does it. He had such great energy and they even made our own labels for the wedding. You should consider hiring him for your next special occasion in Cabo. He also speaks great English, which isn’t necessary, but it was nice to be able to chat cigars with him,” said Jay Denopoulos from Norfolk, Massachusetts.
In San Jose del Cabo, Fidel’s Cigar Shop Habanos Point, Smorgan’s Habanos Point, Cigars and Coffee Maestro Torcedor, and Cuesta Rey Shop Cabos are the top places to enjoy a good Cuban cigar and all the amenities that come with the love of a good tobacco smell and taste.
“Had a great experience while on vacation. Fidel and his daughter were both super informative and a pleasure to talk with and took the time to educate us on everything cigar-related. They also have a souvenir store a couple of stores down where we shopped and also had a great experience,” said Carri Dolce, a wine consultant who lives in New York, New York.
Fidel’s Cigar Shop Habanos Point has been in business for over 25 years. Fidel is very knowledgeable and has some of the best cigars and tequila to offer in San Jose del Cabo.
