This finding comes from a new study by FishingBooker, the world’s leading site for booking fishing trips. The study ranked the top fishing destinations outside of the US, based on five criteria, using internal data from over forty thousand fishing trips in the past year.
In this extensive ranking, which evaluated 266 destinations, five Mexican towns made it into the top twenty. Cabo San Lucas ranked #1, followed by Cancún at #2, Puerto Peñasco at #3, Puerto Vallarta at #6, and Playa del Carmen securing the #12 spot.
Why did Cabo San Lucas take the top spot in the world?
Cabo San Lucas received 43 out of a total possible score of 60 points. In two out of five categories, it received the full ten points:
- • Number of available fishing charters
- • Number of bookings
In Mexico itself the top fishing towns are:
- 1. Cabo San Lucas – 43 points
- 2. Cancún – 35 points
- 3. Puerto Peñasco – 33 points
- 4. Puerto Vallarta – 29 points
- 5. Playa del Carmen – 27 points
- 6. Ensenada – 25 points
- 7. Puerto Aventuras 25 points
- 8. Cozumel – 24 points
- 9. Isla Mujeres – 23 points
- 10. Puerto Escondido – 23 points
Methodology
FishingBooker’s rankings are based on five key criteria. Using data collected over the past year from more than 40,000 fishing trips and reviews on our site, we looked at the:
- • Number of available fishing charters
- • Average review score
- • Average recommended score
- • Number of guides with the Angler’s Choice Award
- • Number of bookings
All of the above criteria were taken into account for the past year. For any location to be considered, at least ten bookings had to have been made there in the past 365 days.
