Due to a change in the law, October 1st will now be an official holiday every six years to mark the change of the President of Mexico. This upcoming Tuesday, history will be made as Ph.D. Claudia Sheinbaum becomes Mexico’s first-ever female president. She won the June elections with nearly 60% of the vote, beating another strong female candidate, Xóchitl Gálvez, who received 39%.
Sheinbaum will take her oath of office at the headquarters of the lower chamber of Congress, and this day will undoubtedly be remembered as a milestone in Mexico’s history. The new holiday will give everyone a chance to reflect on the significance of leadership changes and celebrate this new chapter for the country.
So, mark your calendars—October 1st will now be a day off every six years! Congratulations to President Sheinbaum, and here’s to a bright future ahead for Mexico!
