During this past week, dozens of Olive Ridley sea turtles made their way to Medano Beach, which, as we all know, is our busiest beach. These amazing creatures arrived to lay their eggs, but the curiosity of both locals and tourists scared some of them away. Thankfully, the staff from nearby restaurants stepped in and did their best to protect the turtles, shooing people away and keeping them safe until members of the navy and national guard arrived to lend a hand.
With their help, almost 200 nests were recovered and safely relocated to a nursery, where the eggs will be kept safe until they hatch. It’s a beautiful reminder of how we can all pitch in to protect our wildlife—even in the busiest of places.
Hooray for the turtles, and kudos to everyone who helped out! Let’s keep protecting our precious wildlife!
