The first earthquake hit early Tuesday morning, September 3, at 4:58 am with a magnitude of 4.3. The epicenter was located just 2.35 miles southwest of San Jose del Cabo, out in the ocean. It didn’t come alone – six more followed throughout the day, ranging in magnitude from 3.0 to 3.4. All this shaking comes courtesy of the San Andreas fault, which runs from California right into the Sea of Cortes.
Earthquakes are a regular thing in this region, with dozens happening each year, though most go unnoticed. This time, however, minor damage was reported at a local elementary school and a few homes. No major injuries, thankfully.
