Thanks to the recent rain and strong sea currents, a large number of Olive Ridley sea turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea) have come ashore in Los Cabos to lay their eggs. The El Suspiro beach, located near the Diamante development on the Pacific side, was bustling with activity as these amazing creatures made their way onto the sand.
Carlos Villalobos, a dedicated member of the Los Cabos turtle protection program, and his team, including employees from Diamante, Nobu, and the Hard Rock resorts, were busy collecting eggs. They gathered so many eggs that they had to construct over 200 new nests! This marks the beginning of the sea turtle season, and already more than 10,000 eggs are being carefully protected in nests throughout Los Cabos.
When the tiny sea turtles hatch, they will be released into the ocean, hopefully starting their journey to adulthood. It’s a beautiful and hopeful sight for all involved!
