Cabo San Lucas martial artist Allison Naomy earned the right to represent Mexico after she won the first-place gold medal at the CONADE Mexico National Championships competition.
The Southern California Sports Institute (ISUDE) announced that Naomy will participate in the Karate World Cup of the World Union of Karate-Do Federation in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.
Naomy pointed out it is an honor to represent the entire country in this international tournament, where she hopes to achieve the same gold medal-winning result as her Guadalajara national championship victory. Naomy is originally from Cabo San Lucas and will be competing in the 68 kilograms division (149 lbs).
The hard-working Naomy began training at the age of 8 on the recommendation of her mother, who felt karate is a sport that provides a lot of discipline and values, and helps build character. Since then, Naomy has participated in different national competitions and will now experience her first world championship event. In addition to Naomy, teammates Jorge Suárez and Santiago Urquidez will also compete at the competition. Both are coached by Miguel Lomas, who is president of the Karate Association in Baja California Sur.
After the CONADE 2024 National Finals, Baja California Sur closed the six-day competition with a 3rd place team finish, with a total of 129 medals, consisting of 35 gold, 37 silver and 57 bronze. “This achievement underscores the need to continue working and make the necessary adjustments to offer better opportunities to children and young people next year,” said Noé Verduzco, director of ISUDE.
Verduzco praised the efforts of coaches, athletes and the entire sports community in obtaining this major national championship event, considered the most important in Mexico. However, he emphasized the importance of maintaining this dynamic effort by our young local athletes, who realized their childhood dream of competing at the national level and achieving these great individual results.
