I want to introduce myself to the community. I am a Chef. I am from Colorado and my family is from Michoacan. I love food, I love to explore and I absolutely love to meet people and talk about food stories. It links us together, food. Dishes remind us of a memory, whether it’s good or bad but it does. If you like to eat and explore, you will want to see what I am up to in Los Cabos. Up to some good eating.
I have met a lot of locals, visitors and vendors throughout the couple of years I have been here. My husband Gabe and I go for a 5-mile walk in the morning before we hit the gym. Throughout the walks, we have taken shortcuts, side roads and different routes to get to know the town on foot.
I came here for an escape from the snow in Colorado and found that on that trip, I wanted to buy a home and retire here one day.
I do have a lot to explore and the town will continue to change but the one thing that will not change is my love for food, people and experiences.
I can’t wait to keep giving you places that you have tried, haven’t and want to.
Breakfast at Jazmin’s
Not only do they offer valet for those that drive but it’s easy to walk to and rumble an appetite. I get some things on the menu that are not necessarily served together but I have made this plate my own.
Chorizo cooked and drained of the excessive oil with poached eggs. They don’t overwhelm your plate with so many potatoes but the few they give you are cooked perfectly with bell peppers and onions. I do get the birria on the side because I need that extra protein on my plate plus my husband likes to pick at it as well. With a couple of tortillas, one flour and corn – it makes for a perfect breakfast. This is why I walk a lot, to enjoy the flavors and meals throughout the day.
Their cappuccino is one strong cup of goodness. Expect to get enough energy to walk back another 2.5 miles to my house.
One side note, try their fresh cantaloupe juice. Believe me, it’s refreshing and it pairs perfectly with champagne or tequila for a cocktail. I always get mine to go.
I’m sure you’ve seen the tent as you’re walking downtown. Most people don’t know what to expect until they poke their heads in there.
I walked in thinking I found a rodeo in the back but found Claro Fish Jr instead.
You can smell the ocean in their fresh oysters, which I enjoy as an appetizer. But the most amazing stack of goodness that I have over and over is the Tower. La Torre.
Are you kidding me? It’s a seafood lover’s dream to have layer upon layer of texture and flavor.
I can eat this whole thing myself with a few tostadas but it’s a very shareable plate.
Now its tacos are amazing and there is every kind from carne to veggies. There is a bar filled with every condiment you can think of to top them off. I didn’t realize this until after two years of eating here, but there are baskets of onion rings and fries on the top of the condiment bar to top off your tacos or dip them into the sauces.
Now, the next location is right behind La Comer. This is awesome because you can park right at the parking lot at the store and walk over. A simple cooked shrimp ceviche tostada or your tempura fried fish (turns into two, ask for an extra tortilla) will satisfy your appetite.
But here’s the kicker about this location, they also serve one menu of Asian cuisine from amazing sushi rolls to fried rice. We were lucky enough to try their new dish, the tuna sashimi with fanned avocado and serrano slivers. I have never had a bad meal here or a margarita for that matter.
Each location has plenty of parking and hot sauces on the table to enjoy.
Dine at Dolce
I’ve come to this restaurant a few times because it has always made me happy. Their specials are always so good and their portions are beyond my expectations. I can never finish my food so I always go here on days, I go home right after.
The pizza is a thin crust with small burnt bubbles on the crust. Even their bread is delicious and soft with the olive oil and balsamic blend, sprinkle parmesan and a light touch of chili flakes.
This dish is not always on the menu but it was on this night. We should have shared, but Nooo, we had to have our own. Shrimp, mussels, clams, fish and lots of lemon over spaghetti with garlic. I mean how fresh can this get?
Their lasagna is so creamy and is loaded with the beef. I usually try to cut this in half so that I can have the second half the next day.
If it’s your birthday, watch out. I will not tell you what will happen but this is where you want to have your fun dinner!
Sweet bite
Crepe at Sebastian! It is light and has a shareable taste of goodness. The crepe bar is available from morning until after dinner. Although they do have a good assortment of savory and sweet ones, please try the Nutella crepe. It doesn’t get simpler and more delicious than that. Creamy, nutty, fluffy and what a perfect bite that bottom pointy part is. That’s where the argument will end up with whoever you share it with or maybe you don’t. Create your own, they have so many ingredients.
