Residents of El Sargento, over at the East Cape, had quite the surprise when they stumbled upon a medium-sized Giant Oarfish sprawled out lifeless on the beach. And get this, it wasn’t the first time. Just last month, another one washed ashore nearby. Crazy, right? These sightings are super rare because these guys usually chill about 3,300 feet below the sea surface.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Legend has it that these eerie creatures pop up right before an earthquake hits. And guess what happened after the last sighting in April? Yup, you guessed it – a bunch of earthquakes started rumbling underwater near Loreto, some even hitting a magnitude of 4.0+. And now, just recently, a whopping 6.4 magnitude earthquake shook things up underwater, about 122 kilometers east of San Jose del Cabo, chilling 10 kilometers deep. Makes you wonder, should we start taking this legend a bit more seriously?
