“The “Chiapas Star” ferry boat, which began sinking at the Mazatlan dock two days ago, has been successfully stabilized. The boat, loaded with containers destined for La Paz, had come from Manzanillo. Baja Ferries, the company owning the boat, stated they were able to stabilize it, and port operations in Mazatlan have since resumed normally.”
Not all are good news though, the cruise ship ‘Carnival Panorama’ had to bypass its scheduled stop at the port due to its closure during the ship’s stabilization. Instead, it proceeded to the next port of call for an extended stay. The financial impact of the ship not docking in Mazatlán is estimated at around 5.6 million pesos in lost revenue for restaurants, transportation, tourist attractions, and shops.
