An initiative to make hiring older people mandatory was approved by Mexico’s senate and sent to the lower chamber of congress for confirmation. No doubt it will pass easily and become law. Corporations will be forced to hire at least 1 elderly person out of each 20 employees. There are over 15 million Mexicans 60 years old or more, of which 41 percent are economically active.
For many years, people over 40-45 years of age have found it nearly impossible to get hired in Mexico. We’ll see if that changes now. Look! They are already celebrating!
