The presence of at least eight of the giant, filter-feeding carpet shark and the largest known extant fish species in La Paz bay has prompted the CONANP (national commission of natural protected areas) to approve the resuming of whale shark watching tours. It is a very popular tour, where the most adventurous even jumped in the ocean to swim with them. A whale shark can reach up to 61.7 feet in length and is byb far the largest living nonmammalian vertebrate.
