Santiago, a small community north of San Jose del Cabo towards the East Cape is at risk by the extraction of stone and boulders from the arroyo San Jorge. The arroyo of San Jorge, Agua Caliente and La Zorra all flow into the arroyo of Santiago that surrounds the village. Without these natural embankments, the water runs with more velocity and strength with direct consequences to neighbors. This arroyo has already taken away houses and the sports stadium. The retaining wall is fractured. The extraction of rocks is allegedly for the Costa Palmas development in La Ribera. Fortunately, the residents of Santiago are getting into action, with a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 15, to stop the extraction.
