Tourism in Los Cabos has increased steadily over the last couple of years, and resort developers and investors don't think that will stop any time soon. There are currently 14 major projects underway in Los Cabos, most of them falling in the luxury category.

The modern design is a combination of stacked blocks and natural elements. With grass roofs, tunnels and lots of greenery, this is looking to be a very different of resort for the Los Cabos market. Park Hyatt Los Cabos

Located within Cabo Del Sol, this is a beach-front project between Fiesta Americana and the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar. The original lot was going to be the Ritz Carlton and then sat undeveloped for over 10 years. When Cabo Del Sol's ocean course was changed to make more ocean front for a project, our suspicions that something was happening were aroused. The hotel will feature 162 guestrooms and 28 Park Hyatt Residences. Opening late 2020.

On the Pacific Side

Pueblo Bonito Sunset Two

When Ernesto Coppel announced his land purchase on the Pacific side back in 2001, many people felt that would be a huge mistake. This massive parcel of land seemed inaccessible and too far from Cabo. Boy, were we all wrong! Quivira has become a destination unto itself. With Pueblo Bonito Sunset, Pueblo Bonito Pacifica and the newly opened The Towers at Pacifica, this resort juggernaut now has five resorts, with a sixth being planned. Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Two will be between Pacifica and Sunset Beach. It will have a wide range of full ownership options.

St Regis Los Cabos

St Regis just announced plans to join Quivira at Cabo Falso. They will build 120 high-end villas and 60 residences. The St. Regis will be located on the west side of Sunset Beach and just below the cliff-side holes of Quivira Golf Course. There are also plans to build a second golf course. Opening late 2020.

Nobu Resorts

Joining the Diamante project, Nobu Hotels enters into new territory in Mexico, bringing an Asian luxury option to Cabo. The suites will be designed using natural materials, featuring a Japanese-meets-contemporary beach design. Opening 2018.

Rancho San Lucas

This development includes two resorts now being built, Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas and the Private Residences at Rancho San Lucas. These newest mega resorts, sitting on over 800 acres, is under construction from the Solmar Group. This destination property will have it all; golf, tennis, a river, lagoon and wave pool, villas and mansions. Opening Jan 2018.

There has been some concern that Cabo can't absorb so many new hotel rooms, fractional residences and luxury residences when we have such a big supply in the first place. But we are reconsidering our concern giving recent natural disasters in other tropical vacation destinations.

We hate to say it, but the boost we received after the Hurricane Wilma decimated Cancun in 2005 was substantial. Thousands of tourists that usually went to the Riviera Maya gave Cabo a try, and kept returning. It's likely we will get another boost with the current situation in Florida and the Caribbean.

Now, if we could only get these deep pocketed developers to build some low-cost housing, improve our water supply and overall infrastructure. But that won't happen because developers' fees are not like they are in the United States.
