May 3. Thursday. 7:00 pm.  Susana, Flesh and Demon (Susana, Carne & Demonio). (1950). Drama. Powerful melodrama The film uses the power of eroticism to reveal the hypocrisies of modern society. May 4 and 18.  Friday. 8:00 pm. Chained Words. Play by GestoNoEsTeatro, directed by Emanuel Novelo. May 10. Thursday. 7:00 pm. The Forgotten Ones (Los Olvidados). (1950). Drama. A group of young delinquents live a violent and crime-filled life in the festering slums of Mexico City, and the morals of young Pedro are gradually corrupted by  others whose sole redeeming quality is their devotion to one another. May 17. Thursday. 7:00 pm.  Simon of The Desert (Simon del Desierto). (1965). Short. Comedy. Drama. Simon, a deeply religious man living in the 4th century, wants to be nearer to God so he climbs a column. The Devil wants him to come down to Earth and is trying to seduce him. May 24. Thursday. 7:00 pm.  That Obscure Object of Desire (Ese Oscuro Objeto del Deseo). (1977). Comedy, Drama. Directed by L. Buñuel. Fernando Rey plays a wealthy, obsessive freaky man who falls in love with a beautiful Spanish maiden, played in some scenes by Carole Bouquet, in others by Angela Molina (Why two actresses? Bunuel never explains). Based on Pierre Louys' novel The Woman and the Puppet. Pavilion’s Movie Club. Spanish sometimes with English subtitles. Free. May 31. Thursday. 7:00 pm.  This Strange Passion (Torments). (1953). Comedy, Drama, Romance. When a man who has remained chaste through his entire life becomes hopelessly enamored of a woman he sees in church, he woos her away from her lover and marries her. Torn between an obsessive passion for her and a logic-obliterating jealousy of everyone he sees, he destroys the relationship. He retreats to a monastery, where he is visited years later by his ex-wife and her child. Directed by Luis Bunuel. Pavilion’s Movie Club. Spanish sometimes with English subtitles. Free.
